We know from experience that when done well, retrofit can provide plenty of noticeable energy savings and deliver comfortable homes for residents.

If we are to ensure that everyone can live in a decent quality, energy efficient and sustainable home, then we need to make sure high standards of workmanship are kept and encouraged, while retrofit at scale continues to be a priority for the country’s key policymakers.

A whole-house approach, while retaining the importance of fabric as a central and critical thread, is the way forward for the needs and wellbeing of the country’s tenants.

Improving the quality of homes, allied with the drive towards decarbonisation and net zero, is what we as an organisation aspire to. They are objectives that can be reached with the right retrofit offering.

As a country we are trying valiantly to move in the right direction, and many housing authorities engaging in retrofit and refurbishment projects to upscale their stock. But more needs to be done. There remains a significant number of UK homes deemed ‘substandard’, as the stats show.
