Adrian Bishop, MD of Westdale Midlands Ltd, recently attended a roundtable event organised by Doncaster Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change.
It was a highly informative session that explored how local businesses are faring and then broadened the discussion to issues at a national level.
It was rewarding to hear that Mr Miliband is a supporter of fabric first insulation measures, and we hope we addressed the comments on affordability by highlighting that this investment delivers value on many levels and that the payback extends far beyond the financial benefits of reducing residents’ and homeowners’ bills. These include:
– Healthier homes for residents
– Reduced strain on the NHS
– Improved academic results as children have warm, safe places to study
– Better air quality
– Lower energy consumption and bills for residents
– Reduced property maintenance costs for social housing landlords
– Less mental health anxiety around paying bills
– Rejuvenated neighbourhoods becoming more desirable places to live
– Greater community pride as residents see visible improvements and recognise the investment in their wellbeing
– Prevention and eradication of mould and damp
These conversations remind us how important it is to keep pushing for solutions that benefit people and communities.
